The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (issued by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health & Human Services) recommend that the average American adult consume 225 to 325 grams of carbohydrates per day. Unfortunately, for most Americans, a significant portion of this massive carbohydrate intake comes from refined flour in the form of cookies, cakes, cereal, bread, and pasta. Refined flour may not sound so bad at first glance, but it is depleted in nutrients and contains harmful additives.
